You Are Your Child's First Teacher
“You Are Your Child’s First and Most Important Teacher!”You are their mentor their role model.
*School Readiness shows the extreme importance of vocabulary knowledge.
10,000 or more words before Kindergarten
*It doesn’t matter what you are looking at, singing, doing or reading…it is important that you are engaged together!
*The way little boys and girls spend their time at home predicts success in school, not the family’s income or background.
*It takes more than 20 minutes to bake a cake…
Some days it may be hard to get in the full 20 minutes: Common Activities that are great for learning…
Driving: Sing songs and read signs, tell stories about your childhood.
Shopping: Talk about the different healthy foods your family likes to eat. Ask your child questions “Should we choose the green beans or the brown beans for dinner?”
Doing Chores: Put signs on a few objects at home, such as “bed” and make a game as saying letters aloud. Use concept words (example) “Put your pajamas on after you brush your teeth.” Use opposites (example) “Was the water hot or cold?” “Are the lights on or off?”
**Read, read, read to your child everyday!
